  • Product Info

This medium-fine grind of organic Wapsie Valley corn makes naturally sweet and aromatic cornbread, corn muffins, hush puppies, cookies, and more. The name of this variety derives from the Ojibwe (Chippewa) name for Iowa’s Wapsipinicon River. The “valley” part of the name refers to the valley-like indentation at the top of each kernel.

According to the Steinbronn family of Artesian Organic Farm, Wapsie Valley Dent Open-Pollinated Corn came into being in 1971 when Adolph Steinbronn crossed Reid’s Yellow Dent and Golden Glow varieties. The corn is still being grown by the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations of Adolph Steinbronn in Bremer County, Iowa where it originated.
