    Turkey Red is an heirloom hard red winter wheat that originated in Turkey, and was grown in the bread baskets of Europe for centuries. It arrived in Kansas with Ukrainian and Crimean Mennonite farmers fleeing Czar Nicholas II in 1873. Prized for its hardiness, rich flavors, and excellent baking qualities, Turkey Red has been recognized by Slow Food and put on their Ark of Taste.

What a Great Experience!

I ordered eleven different items, which I just recently received. The Turkey Red Berries are the only thing I have had time to try. Fantastic! I’m new to making my own flour, but I’m having a blast. Like a kid in a candy store. Everything arrived quickly, clean and well packaged.

I grind my own flour and really like the Turkey Red - I do blend this with other wheat, but I have made baked goods using this alone and everything comes out great. Nice tasting baked goods with this flour!

The most flavorful and aroma

If your looking for full flavor and a wheat with such diverse applications Turkey red it is my favorite wheat!! Soo delicious any which way I usually freshly grind it and mix it into my artisan breads, but also baked cookies with it and it was amazing!

Well, I was born and raised in Ukraine up until I was 18. Grew up on wonderful bread we had there. When came to USA, the bread was very disappointing along with lots of other foods and we came to the conclusion that we are “just not as hungry anymore” but really it’s wasn’t true, just the quality of ingredients are way lower. Turkey Red Wheat originally came from Ukraine to USA in 18th century with Ukrainian immigrants, the flavor of bread baked with this grain is just hits the spot for me. It’s robust, flavorful, satisfying and exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered this grain! I’ve tried other kinds of wheat for bread, but it was lacking the flavor, was coming out bland to my liking. The only negative that Red Turkey wheat is rare and therefore much more expensive, than other organic wheat.
