Whole grain oats are also known as groats. “Groat” is an old Scottish word for any hulled grain, but it’s mainly used for oats in modern English, while “berry” is used for whole grains of wheat and rye. Our organic whole grain oats are rich in B-vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber, and low in sodium and unsaturated fat. They have a pleasing texture and wholesome nutty taste. You can use them as you would wheat berries — for grain bowls, pilafs, soups, stews, and hot cereal.

Cook up your whole oats as you would brown rice, with about 3 parts water to 1 part grain. The amount of time will vary, depending on if you cook them on top of the stove, in a crock-pot slow-cooker, or in an insta-pot or pressure cooker — check out our helpful guide and recipes. Use the cooked oats for breakfast cereal, soups, stews, pilafs, casseroles and grain salads.

Plump'N Fresh

I was a little nervous buying so much w/o sampling some first, but their website gave me a bit of confidence my choice. Seemed like the kind of growers I could relate to. The oat groats that came in the 25# bag seemed fresh and clean of unwanted debris that I read about in reviews for other companies of similar product. I've been eating organic oat groats every single morning for decades, but I noticed the prices were up being their oats come from different areas of foreign countries each time I order it, where as Janie's Mill is right here in the U.S. The prices are very fair and very competitive.

I cook the oats in my Instant pot, then add it to my bowl of blueberries, banana and hemp seeds...sometimes add a bit of papaya or pitted cherries, strawberries always work too...but the oat groats are an "always". Glad to have found this company, I highly recommend them.

The Best!

Having tried several vendors of organic oat groats over the past years, Janie's Mill have a noticeable edge in quality, freshness, and flavor. These cook up really nicely and are excellent served as you would oatmeal or even better is mixed in with soups and chili's for added texture and flavor. Our family occasionally eats meat, and these oats are a nice substitute. Packaging is excellent, upon opening the bag, the freshness is very noticeable. No hulls or other debris either. We will be a regular customer!
