Our Janie's Mill manager (Jill!) first met Alisa Crawford, a historian and miller as well as an accomplished operator of windmills and grist mills, at a conference. Alisa Crawford trained in traditional milling in Europe, and became the first Dutch-certified miller in the Americas. She was admitted as the first woman in the Traditional Grain Millers Guild of the Netherlands and served for over 18 years as miller of De Zwaan, the Dutch windmill in Holland, Michigan.  She completed all three levels of miller training in the Dutch language, and is certified in wind and water powered mills.
