Neighbor Grains Program

Early in 2025, a popular federal program that provided funding for food banks and other organizations to purchase healthy local foods was eliminated. This occurred as other funding for programs focused on alleviating food insecurity were also cut. So Janie’s Mill decided to help our neighbors, and offer you a way to help, too!

Neighbor Grains was inspired by Neighbor Loaves, a program implemented by many of our brick & mortar bakeries during the pandemic to assist those in need. Our version is similar, only we donate wholesome flours instead of loaves so that recipients can make pancakes, muffins, cookies, or whatever they like!

Purchase one (or more) of our Neighbor Grains product, and we tally all Neighbor Grains donations at the end of each quarter. Janie's Mill is committed to a 1:1 match of every donation! Bags of our organic flours will then be delivered to a non-profit focused on providing access to healthy foods. 

We thank you for supporting Janie’s Mill Neighbor Grains initiative to provide certified organic, wholesome and nutritious flours and grains to our community.

Operation Food Search

The inaugural recipient for Janie's Mill "Neighbor Grains" donations is Operation Food Search. Their mission is "To provide food today, and help create a hunger-free tomorrow."

Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search provides free food and nutrition education, with a strategic focus on ending childhood hunger. They provide food and services to 200,000 individuals every month – one-third of whom are children – through a network of 330 community partners in 25 Missouri and Illinois counties.

How to Donate a Neighbor Grains Product

Simply click here to donate our versatile Organic All-Purpose Flour to a neighbor in need! Each 1.5-lb bag that you purchase is matched 1:1 by Janie's Mill, and all donations are sent to our Neighbor Grains recipient at the end of each quarter.

One-to-One Match

Janie's Mill matches all donations one-to-one, so the more you donate, the more we match, and the more high-quality nutritious flour goes to our community.

For example, if 500 bags of flour are donated by YOU, the community, Janie’s Mill will kick in 500 additional bags!
