    When we stone-mill this heirloom corn from the 1800s, it releases fresh, sweet, nutty aromas, which translate into delightful flavors when you eat it! The flecks of the burgundy seed coats against the ivory interior of the kernels is reminiscent of a spattered butcher's apron, which is how this variety got its name. It makes a fabulous cornbread, of course, but you can also use it in corn muffins, cookies, cakes, crackers, and more!

amazing cornbread

Both the Bloody Butcher and Golden Yellow Cornmeal make amazing cornbread. The Bloody Butcher gives a great color and a slightly nuttier taste. I love working with these flours.

Wow, Fabulous Cornbread

Organic Bloody Butcher makes a delicious cornbread. So much better than the stuff I have previously picked up in the chain grocery stores. Now, I am looking up every kind of cornmeal recipe I can find on the internet!!

Very high quality cornmeal.

Excellent results making cornbread, with a slight nod of personal preference to the buttery flavor of yellow organic cornmeal by Janie's mill. Very close second for us with how we bake and for our flavor preferences. Still a universe of difference from standard grocery store bulk processed and boxed corn meal.

Bloody Butcher Cornbread

I will never go back to using industrial yellow corn cornmeal for my cornbread. Squirrels got most of the Black Aztec I grew this year to grind into cornmeal. Janie’s Mill to the rescue with Bloody Butcher for delicious cornbread this winter!

Best cornmeal ever!

I was so excited to get this. I made a cornbread with this and the yellow cornmeal from Janie's and heard nothing, but mmmmmmm from my guests. Added just the right touch of sweet and rich nutty flavor to the end product. What a treat to have found you!
