    Whole grain oats are also known as groats. “Groat” is an old Scottish word for any hulled grain, but it’s mainly used for oats in modern English, while “berry” is used for whole grains of wheat and rye. Our organic whole grain oats are rich in B-vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber, and low in sodium and unsaturated fat. They have a pleasing texture and wholesome nutty taste. You can use them as you would wheat berries — for grain bowls, pilafs, soups, stews, and hot cereal.

    Cook up your whole oats as you would brown rice, with about 3 parts water to 1 part grain. The amount of time will vary, depending on if you cook them on top of the stove, in a crock-pot slow-cooker, or in an insta-pot or pressure cooker — check out our helpful guide and recipes. Use the cooked oats for breakfast cereal, soups, stews, pilafs, casseroles and grain salads.

I buy steel cut oats, but thought I would try the whole grain oats. I've cook them as a breakfast cereal this far. It appears that I am using less maple syrup to sweeten whole grain than what I normally do for steel cut oats.

I bought these on a whim, to try something new, and I'm so glad I did! They're delicious! I've been making them in the instant pot, and serving them with yogurt and fresh fruit. Yum!

Groats Breakfast

My husband and I switched from oatmeal to these and it’s the best thing we did! I was never a fan of oatmeal and just ate it for the nutritional value, but this is much more tolerable for me, I’m never going back! I make them in the slower cooker and changed up the recipe a bit…add a little bit of my morning coffee to them and I’m set!

Best oats for porridge!

I’ve been using Janie’s oat groats in wi yet porridge for over a year, and they are amazing. Great flavor and chewy texture. I put them in the Instantpot for 20 minutes, add a little rolled oats to absorb any remaining water, then a little cinnamon and dried fruit. Healthy food at its very best!
