Peanut Butter and Oat Flake Dog Treats

These good-dog-approved treats come together quickly in a food processor (or by hand) and are made with just a few simple, dog-safe (and dog-healthy!) ingredients. Our fiber-rich flaked oats support healthy digestion and a shiny coat, while peanut butter and nutritional yeast create a flavor that dogs can't resist! They're perfect for spoiling your pup with homemade goodness!

Yield: about 50 2-inch dog treats

Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (113 g) Janie's Mill Oat Flakes (or try another flaked grain!)
  • 1 cup (120 g) Janie's Mill Turkey Red Flour (or Red Fife)
  • 1⁄2 cup (30 g) nutritional yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 6 Tablespoons (96 g) peanut butter
  • 2 Tablespoons (28 g) coconut oil
  • 6 Tablespoons (86 g) chicken broth, beef broth, or water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Pulse the oats in a food processor until you achieve a slightly finer texture with some pebbly bits remaining. This will help you to get smooth edges when cutting out your treats. If you do not have a food processor, simply proceed with whole oat flakes.
  2. Add the flour and nutritional yeast to the food processor and pulse to combine. Add the egg, peanut butter, and coconut oil and pulse again until a thick paste forms. On low speed, slowly stream in the broth or water and pulse until a cohesive dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll to a thickness of approximately 1/4 inch. Use your favorite cookie cutters to punch out shapes or cut the dough into squares and arrange the treats on a parchment lined baking sheet. Reroll the scraps until you've used all the dough. The treats will not expand during baking and can be placed close together.
  4. Bake the treats for 30 minutes until they are thoroughly dried. Store the treats for a month or more in a sealed jar.
